In 1977, the group diversified from paper into raw materials for the
electronics and electrical industries. In 1979 the group further diversified
into chemicals and polymers. Over the years the company has established a
strong supply base globally and has emerged as an indenting major in
India.
Today the Himatlal Group's indenting activities encompass products in
five diverse categories such as : paper & pulp, petrochemicals,

KEY
PERSONNEL

HIMATLAL SHAH (Chairman)
Born in 1915, coming from a family of businessmen for over 3
generations, Mr. Himatlal Shah decided to embark upon his own business
immediately after completing his undergraduation studies in English.
Trading skill was in his blood. He launched in 1943 a trading company doing
business in paper and pulp. Being an outgoing and an affable personality,
he decided to explore getting agencies / representations from international
sources. His exposure to the international business allowed him to develop
long term contacts with European countries when very few traders from India
ventured into the international arena. This gave him a head start with
flying colours in the un-explored business potential of India. He could
achieve up to 40% market share in trading of certain varieties of paper /
pulp on all India basis, mainly through imports. Later, the trading also
included distributorship of Indian mills. As India progressed, he could
maintain the progressive market share in paper / pulp business for next 20
years by adding more and more varieties of papers, including specialized
paper for Electrical industry. He also diversified into manmade fiber &
yarn (nylon / polyester) which went into the textile industry
CHETAN SHAH (Director)
After completing his Commerce graduation, Mr.Chetan Shah joined the
paper / pulp business of Himatlal & Company in 1968 / 69, after taking
the necessary technical training in Europe for marketing of insulating
papers to the fast developing Indian Electrical industry. He was able to
pioneer the marketing of this specialised paper to the manufacturers of
transformers, cables, capacitors, electric motors and winding wires,
followed by other insulating materials from several European suppliers.
Even at that early time, he was a stickler for giving the best of customer
service and his persevering efforts helped the company to also become a
prominent player in other grades of specialty papers like, baryta coated
base paper for photo industry, abrasive base paper, transfer paper, and
other kinds of coated papers used by various industries. This was in
addition to the on-going paper / pulp business which basically started with
newsprint / writing - printing paper. The diversified business included all
kinds of paper / pulp, fiber / yarn & insulating materials wherein
Himatlal & Company was representing many leading east as well as west
European companies and trading organizations. He decided to form
"Himatlal Group of Companies" where each company was not only to
handle different products for different industries, but responsible as a
profit centre.
GAUTAM SHAH (Director)
A post graduate in Electrical Engineering with Electronics as his major
from USA, Gautam Shah joined Himatlal group in 1975. He created a new
division- raw materials for Electronics & Electrical industries. His
first target was the "PCB" industry. He simultaneously trained
himself on management controls by completing a Diploma in Business
Management with rank holding. He was able to further the group's goals by diversifying
into fast growing Electronics field, & increasing the sales turnover
rapidly. He introduced professionalism in the group with his strong techno
commercial background and use of computer aids. Through a systematic &
professional approach to management, he has launched a restructuring
process in the group, seeing that the group is exposed internationally to
the modern facilities of On-line competition. This division contributes to
a healthy gross margin for the group and is now poised to rapidly increase
the turnover & profits through diversification into the field of
Electronic components for the "IT & Telecom" industries -
areas which have a very high potential growth rate in the near
future.
JAY SHAH (Director)
A Commerce graduate, with a strong and aggressive growth oriented
approach, Jay Shah joined the group in 1978 and started a new division
called the "Chemicals & Plastics Division". He explored the
new up-coming South Asian countries & took up the agencies from
countries like Korea & Taiwan. This division has continued to progress
& explore more competitive countries like Thailand, Indonesia &
China. His vision & marketing skills not only pushed Himatlal Group
into a high profile launching pad, but honoured him with the coveted
executive director post in "Adani Exports" - now a super star US$
500.00 million international trading house in India. The plastics &
chemical division of Himatlal Group is being dynamically guided by his
strong entrepreneurial skills. His experience in Adani Exports will help
direct the group to diversify further & enter into a well structured
indenting / distributorship business.
